Oak Bluffs is still where Martha's Vineyard goes out at night, but the island's after-dark scene has shrunk since the Hot Tin Roof went dark (renamed Outerland in 2006, closed for good in 2008). These days The Ritz Cafe is the center of a small circuit of bars, live music rooms and free outdoor concerts. Below is every venue we could verify for 2026. At 4 Circuit Avenue, Oak Bluffs, since 1944, the Ritz calls itself a "historic dive bar and music venue."

Live music five nights a week: trivia at 7 PM and karaoke at 9 PM on Tuesdays, Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish (blues) at 8 PM on Wednesdays, The Mike Benjamin Band at 8 PM on Thursdays, and rotating bands plus a DJ Fri–Sat. Mostly blues, soul, rock and funk. It's open year-round, and seven days in summer (from noon most days, Mondays from 7 PM) until 12:30 AM. 21+.
The Ritz Kitchen serves Tue–Fri 4–9 PM. Owner Larkin Stallings won the 2025 Art Buchwald Community Service Award.

At 30 Kennebec Ave, Oak Bluffs, the island's only year-round brewpub, here since 1997, with nine rotating house taps and brick-oven pizza. In the quieter months there's free live music every week from acoustic duos and small groups: Irish folk, blues, Texas swing, reggae and jazz. Open year-round, and fine for families.

At 6 Circuit Ave, Oak Bluffs (not Edgartown), now in its 14th season, serving upscale New American food. Annual drag brunch during Pride Week (mid-June): past years have brought RuPaul's Drag Race names and sold-out seatings. It also hosts Late Night Dancing with DJs during Pride Weekend. Reservations are on Resy. Dinner Mon–Sat from 5 PM; closed Sundays.
At 29 Lake Ave, Oak Bluffs, and still open, seasonally from May to late Sep. The family has run it since 1960, serving seafood and sushi on the harbor. Donovan's Reef is the outdoor cocktail bar, known for the "Dirty Banana", a frozen drink of banana, chocolate and rum, with reggae and colorful awnings. Walk-in only.

Circuit Avenue Extension, at the harbor end of the boardwalk. The Sand Bar has a sand floor under the open-air bar, red stools at the rail, string lights along the eaves and the harbor across the lane. Inside, an old painted town sign, Welcome to Oak Bluffs, the Amusement Center of the Island, hangs over the tables. It's seasonal, and the harbor boardwalk goes quiet after Columbus Day.

The newest name on Kennebec is the quietest to find. The Alley (24 Kennebec Avenue) is a small locally owned bar down the passage beside the building, with bottles and cans, a short list of cocktails and a door hung with its own T-shirts. It's seasonal, with posted hours from June through December, and open until one in the morning every day from July through October. Most people hear about it from someone on the next stool.

At 55 Main St, Edgartown, a raw bar and cocktail spot that has booked rock, bluegrass, jazz, reggae and DJ nights on summer weekends. Its music page lists weekend shows at 10:30 PM from mid-May to the end of October, but no 2026 schedule has gone up there yet, so it's worth a call before you plan a night around it. Seasonal; reservations on Resy.
At 3 Main St, Edgartown, open year-round, seven days a week, 11:30 AM to 12:30 AM. It's a pub and family restaurant with sports on the screens. The Back Bar is the late-night room: in summer 2026 it had DJs or bands from 10 PM on Fridays and Saturdays and karaoke on Thursday and Sunday nights. For off-season shows, the pub's online calendar is the place to check.
71 Main St, Edgartown. "Best Cocktails on the Island" every year 2014–2024 (MV Magazine). It holds a Wine Spectator Award. This is a bistro for cocktails and dinner, without bands, though it throws an occasional DJ party night from 10 PM (Halloween is one) and has a late-night menu. Open five nights from 5:30 PM (closed Sundays and Mondays). Nearly year-round, with a midwinter break (January 1 to February 11 in 2026).
Atlantic Fish and Chop House (2 Main St): a waterfront dining room with DJs after 10 PM on summer Fridays and Saturdays (late June to early September in 2026) and an afternoon DJ on summer Sundays. Its 2026 season ended October 11. Rockfish (11 North Water St): wood-fired pizza and American food on two floors, with two full bars. Bad Martha Brewery (270 Upper Main): live music on the patio, and dogs and kids are welcome. The Newes from America (1742 Colonial pub, fireplace, no live music). Pelican Club at Faraway hotel pours until about 10 PM in season.
Most of the summer scene closes by late October, but a few places keep the lights on. In Oak Bluffs, the Ritz is open year-round, and Offshore Ale is the island’s only year-round brewpub. In Edgartown, the Wharf Pub lists hours of 11:30 AM to 12:30 AM, seven days a week, and Alchemy stays open apart from a midwinter break. The Alley on Kennebec Avenue posts hours through December.

The Hot Tin Roof (opened 1979, closed as a nightclub in 2001, then reborn as Outerland from 2006 to 2008) was co-founded by Carly Simon and booked Lou Reed, Bonnie Raitt, Peter Tosh and Cyndi Lauper; the Blues Brothers played there too. The murals by Margot Datz now hang in the MV Museum, and nothing has replaced it.
The Lampost, the Circuit Avenue nightclub, closed for good in 2018. Nectar's MV ran 2009–2011 at the old Outerland space by the airport; the liquor license passed to partner Flatbread in 2012 (its sold-out Ghostface Killah night was a high point, not the end). Beach Road Weekend, the festival at Veterans Memorial Park in Vineyard Haven, last ran in 2023 (seven-figure losses two years running); its organizers announced a move to Cape Cod for 2025.

Porchfest Edgartown (May, free; bands on porches). MV Jazz and Blues Summerfest (Labor Day weekend, September 4–6 in 2026). Tivoli Day (around Sep 19: an end-of-summer block party on Circuit Ave). Grand Illumination Night (Aug 19, 2026: live music and the lantern lighting).
Newer places are pulling some of the night away from Oak Bluffs: Vineyard Grill (Brazilian BBQ in the former Golden Bull space), The Attic (a bourbon bar in a speakeasy style), El Barco (outdoor tacos and tequila), 9 Craft Kitchen (cocktail bar), The Wave Restaurant and Bar (waterfront dining and a roof deck at the marina; it took over the Garde East spot in May 2026). A Vineyard Gazette commenter noted VH is becoming "the scene."

The 21+ rule is enforced. No venue has a dress code (dive-bar clothes at the Ritz, resort casual in Edgartown). OB last call: 12:30 AM (moved up from 1 AM in October 2023 to match Edgartown; bars close at 1 AM).
Taxis are easier than Uber or Lyft at closing time, and it helps to arrange the pickup ahead (every cab number and the zone fares are in our Uber and taxi guide). All Island Taxi (508-693-2929, 24/7). Adam Cab (508-627-4462, 24/7). The VTA bus is free but doesn't run late at night. Downtown Oak Bluffs is easy to walk between venues. Police run DUI enforcement every summer.
