Martha's Vineyard Nightlife and Live Music: Bars, Concerts and the Full 2026 Scene

Martha's Vineyard Nightlife and Live Music: Bars, Concerts and the Full 2026 Scene

MV nightlife guide: The Ritz, drag brunch, free concerts every night, Edgartown bars, and the island's after-dark scene for 2026.

Oak Bluffs is still where Martha's Vineyard goes out at night, but the island's after-dark scene has shrunk since the Hot Tin Roof went dark (renamed Outerland in 2006, closed for good in 2008). Today, The Ritz Cafe anchors a small circuit of bars, live music venues, and free outdoor concerts. This guide covers every verified venue for 2026. For the quiet half of the night, stars, moonrise and the ponds, see our guide to the island at night.

Red Cat Kitchen: Drag Brunch + Late Night

6 Circuit Ave, OB (NOT Edgartown). Now in its 14th season. Upscale New American. Reservations via Resy. Dinner Mon–Sat from 5 PM; closed Sundays.

Nancy's and Donovan's Reef

29 Lake Ave, OB. NOT permanently closed. Seasonal May–late Sep. Family-operated since 1960. Harbor-front seafood + sushi. Donovan's Reef: outdoor cocktail bar famous for the "Dirty Banana" (banana, chocolate, rum frozen cocktail). Reggae vibes, colorful awnings. Walk-in only.

Edgartown's After-Dark Scene

The Atlantic on Main Street, where Edgartown's evening starts before the DJs do.

Port Hunter: Live Music Hub

55 Main St, Edgartown. Live music billed every weekend in summer: rock, bluegrass, jazz, reggae, DJ sets. Dance floor. Weekend acts start ~10 PM. Seasonal; reservations via Resy.

The Wharf Pub + Back Bar

3 Main St, Edgartown. Year-round, 7 days. Cozy pub + family restaurant + The Back Bar with live music, DJs, karaoke, dancing on summer weekends. Sports screens.

Alchemy Bistro and Bar

71 Main St, Edgartown. "Best Cocktails on the Island" every year 2014–2024 (MV Magazine). Wine Spectator Award. Upscale bistro, NOT a music venue: purely cocktails and dining. Open seven nights from 5:30 PM. Nearly year-round (closed Jan only).

Other Edgartown Spots

Atlantic Fish and Chop House (2 Main St): waterfront dining room with DJ nights Friday and Saturday, plus select Sundays. Seasonal from April 15. Bad Martha Brewery (270 Upper Main): live music on patio, dog/kid friendly. The Newes from America (1742 Colonial pub, fireplace, no live music). Pelican Club at Faraway hotel pours until about 10 PM in season.

Closed Venues: Hot Tin Roof, The Lampost, Nectar's

Hot Tin Roof (1979–2006, then Outerland until 2008), co-founded by Carly Simon. Lou Reed, B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal, Jimmy Cliff, Dizzy Gillespie. John Belushi stormed the stage. The murals by Margot Datz now hang in the MV Museum. No successor has emerged.

The Lampost, OB's only nightclub. Permanently closed. Red Cat Kitchen occupies the space. Nectar's MV ran 2009–2011 at the old Outerland space by the airport; the liquor license passed to partner Flatbread in 2012 (its sold-out Ghostface Killah night was a high point, not the end). Beach Road Weekend, the festival at Veterans Memorial Park in Vineyard Haven, last ran in 2023 (seven-figure losses two years running); a Cape Cod relaunch was announced but never materialized.

Free Outdoor Concerts: Every Night of the Week

  • Sundays: Ocean Park concerts (5:30 PM, free) + Vineyard Haven Band (7 PM, alternates OB/VH)
  • Tuesdays: Sounds Like Summer (Edgartown Library, 6:30 PM) + Dock Dance (Memorial Wharf, 6:30 PM) + MVYRADIO at Winnetu (6 PM)
  • Wednesdays:Community Sing at the Tabernacle (7:30 PM, century-old tradition at the Tabernacle, whose stage has hosted James Taylor, Arlo Guthrie, and Joan Baez over the years)
  • Fridays: Tabernacle Concert Series (6 PM, free) + First Friday Vineyard Haven (live music 5–9 PM then silent disco to 11; six dates a year, Jun–Oct plus Dec)

Friday night at the Tabernacle: free concerts under the iron arches all summer.

Annual Music Events

Porchfest Edgartown (May, free; bands on porches). MV Jazz and Blues Summerfest (Labor Day weekend, September 4–6 in 2026; $50 to $175 per night). Tivoli Day (~Sep 19: Circuit Ave block party, end-of-summer). Grand Illumination Night (Aug 19, 2026: live music + lantern lighting).

Vineyard Haven: The Newer Scene

Newer places are pulling some of the night away from Oak Bluffs: Vineyard Grill (Brazilian BBQ in the former Golden Bull space), The Attic (bourbon bar, speakeasy vibe), El Barco (outdoor tacos + tequila), 9 Craft Kitchen (cocktail bar), The Wave Restaurant and Bar (waterfront dining and a roof deck at the marina; it took over the Garde East spot in May 2026). A Vineyard Gazette commenter noted VH is becoming "the scene."

Practical: Getting Home Safely

21+ strictly enforced. No venue has a dress code (Ritz = dive bar attire, Edgartown = resort casual). OB last call: 12:30 AM (trimmed from 1 AM in 2023; Oak Bluffs declined the 2026 state option to push later, so 12:30 it stays).

Taxis beat Uber/Lyft at closing time. Pre-arrange pickup (every cab number and the zone fares are in our Uber and taxi guide). All Island Taxi (508-693-2929, 24/7). Adam Cab (508-627-4462, 24/7). VTA bus is free but doesn't run late night. OB downtown is walkable between venues. DUI enforcement is active every summer. The Ritz offers a safe-ride-home policy.

Island tip of the dayInsiderNo. 84 of 86New tip at midnight, island time

A 502-foot breach opened at Norton Point on January 1, 2026, cutting the sand link between Katama and Chappaquiddick: the Chappy Ferry is once again the only way across, likely for years. OSV drivers should check current beach access with the town of Edgartown.
