A wild and untouched corner of Chilmark
Squibnocket Beach is one of the most dramatic and untamed beaches on Martha’s Vineyard, located in the town of Chilmark, Massachusetts. Known for its powerful Atlantic waves, steep dunes, and open horizon, Squibnocket Beach offers a raw, unfiltered coastal experience unlike any other on the island.
This is not a resort-style beach. There are no concessions, no boardwalks, and no artificial comforts: just wind, waves, surfers, and space. Squibnocket is where the Vineyard feels wild, exposed, and shaped entirely by the Atlantic Ocean.

Stones underfoot instead of soft sand, fog that arrives without warning, and the most consistent surf break on the island just offshore.

Questions
Questions about Squibnocket
Is Squibnocket Beach open to the public?
It is a Chilmark town beach. From mid-June through Labor Day, access is restricted to Chilmark residents, renters and their guests with a valid sticker or walk-on pass. Outside peak season access is more flexible but still governed by town rules.
Are there lifeguards?
No. There are no lifeguards at Squibnocket, and ocean conditions here can be hazardous.
Is it family-friendly?
Strong surf, rocks and no facilities make it better suited to experienced beachgoers and strong swimmers than to young children.
Squibnocket represents the untamed side of Martha’s Vineyard: powerful, open and uncompromising. For visitors who respect its conditions, access rules and natural environment, it is one of the most memorable stretches of coast on the island.

No concessions, no boardwalk, no lifeguard chair. Whatever the Atlantic is doing that day is the whole programme.
