Fall timetable: four Steamship round trips a day still land in Oak Bluffs and the rest go to Vineyard Haven. The Island Queen runs to October 12, Seastreak from New Bedford lands at Vineyard Haven (not Oak Bluffs) through October 12, and Hy-Line from Hyannis keeps landing in Oak Bluffs through October 25. The weekend car premium is gone: a standard car is a flat $127 each way. More.
The bus
Every VTA route is fare-free through June 30, 2027. Route 1 between Edgartown and Vineyard Haven runs every half hour; up-island routes are thinner outside summer. More.
Beaches
No lifeguards after Labor Day; swim where the water is calm. From September 16 every beach, including Lambert's Cove and Lucy Vincent, is open to everyone. Dogs are back on most sand. More.
The Derby
The Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby is on: free weigh-ins at the end of Dock Street in Edgartown, 8 to 10 in the morning and 7 to 9 at night, every day. More.
