Wine, Beer and BYOB: The One-Minute Rules
BYOB
Bring your own bottle. The restaurant has no liquor license, so you carry in your own wine or beer and the kitchen supplies glasses, ice and sometimes a small corkage fee. On this island it is normal, not a workaround.
Dry towns
Chilmark is the island's only fully dry town: nothing sold anywhere, which is exactly why its restaurants are BYOB. Aquinnah has no store either; its restaurants pour beer and wine with meals only. Plan the bottle before you drive up-island.
Buying bottles
Only Edgartown and Oak Bluffs have real package stores. Vineyard Haven has none: restaurants there pour with meals, but do not count on shops for a take-away bottle. West Tisbury restaurants pour beer and wine with meals only.
MA quirks
Happy-hour drink discounts are banned statewide, and bring photo ID whatever your age.
