Radio Science runs silent DJ after-parties on Martha's Vineyard: headsets kept on the island, three channels, headset wrangling for rentals, tents and lights. The island's answer to the 10 PM outdoor music curfew at weddings.
Every town on Martha's Vineyard turns the outdoor music off at 10 or 11 at night, and a wedding does not stop wanting to dance at 10. The island's answer is the silent disco: wireless headphones, a DJ feeding them, and a lawn full of people singing along to something the neighbors cannot hear. Radio Science is the island crew that runs them, with the headsets already here, so nothing has to come over on the ferry.

Edgartown, West Tisbury and Chilmark stop amplified outdoor music at 10 PM, Oak Bluffs at 11, and some venues call it earlier still. That is the whole reason this service exists here, and it is the same reason we mention silent discos under "The 10 PM Rule" in the wedding guide. Headphones keep the party going without a noise complaint, and they solve two other things at once: the dancers get it loud while the rest of the tent can still hold a conversation, and three-channel headsets mean three different playlists on the same floor, which is half the fun of watching one.
Radio Science has run silent DJ events on the island for five years. The headsets live here, three channels each, so a booking is a quick turnaround rather than a shipment. If you already rented headphones from somewhere off-island, they offer what they call headset wrangling: receiving the shipment, unboxing, bringing everything to the event, plugging into your DJ or playlists, handing out the headsets and showing guests how they work, collecting them at the end and returning the rental on time so there are no late fees. They also have tents and party lights if the after-party needs a roof.

They wrote to us after reading the wedding guide, and the point they made was a fair one: couples read about silent discos as a workaround and then have no idea there is an on-island crew for it. We looked them up, read their site, and added them to the guide. We have not been to one of their after-parties yet; when we have, this page will say so.
