Martha's Vineyard Food Tour: Best Lobster Rolls, Breakfast & Every Must-Eat (2026)

Martha's Vineyard food guide: ranked lists for best lobster roll, breakfast, pizza, burger, and ice cream. Town-by-town tours and BYOB tips for 2026.

Martha's Vineyard isn't just a beach destination — it's one of New England's most extraordinary food destinations. Over 40 working farms, a fishing heritage stretching back centuries, and chefs who change menus based on what the boats brought in that morning. This guide ranks the best of everything — lobster rolls, breakfast, pizza, burgers, chowder, ice cream — and maps food tours by town. For full town guides, see Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, and Vineyard Haven.

This is the single most celebrated food moment on Martha's Vineyard. Crowds regularly break into applause as the sun disappears. Morning Glory Farm (Edgartown, year-round). West Tisbury Farmers Market (Saturdays June–Oct, 40+ vendors). State Road Restaurant (James Beard semifinalist, BYOB). Chilmark Tavern (BYOB, staff provides mixers). Beetlebung Farm for artisan bread. North Tabor Farm honor-system stand.

Practical Tips

  • Reservations: Essential Jul–Aug for Détente, State Road, L'étoile, Charlotte Inn. Book 1–2 weeks ahead. Walk-in strategy: eat main meal at lunch, or dinner before 5:30 PM / after 8:30 PM
  • BYOB:Chilmark is dry — all Menemsha/Chilmark restaurants are BYOB (staff provides mixers). State Road (WT) also BYOB. Buy wine in Edgartown or OB before heading up-island
  • Budget: Cook at rental (fish from Larsen's, produce from Morning Glory). Groceries run 37% above national average — shop in Falmouth before the ferry. Cronig's Island Club membership ($59/year) gives 15% grocery discount. Stop & Shop in VH (near ferry) and Edgartown — no OB location despite common assumption. Farmers Market has affordable prepared food. Offshore Ale = best-value dinner. Back Door Donuts = $3 dessert that beats $15 restaurant options
  • Dress code: Casual everywhere except Charlotte Inn (jackets encouraged)
