Planning a trip around the calendar?
Spring brings film festivals and artisan markets at off-peak prices. Peak summer packs the biggest events close together: July 4th, the Ag Fair, Grand Illumination, the African American Film Festival and Possible Dreams all land within six weeks. September and October feel different. The Derby runs five weeks (September 13 to October 17), the Vineyard Artisans fill the Grange Hall on Columbus Day weekend, the Harvest Festival comes to the Ag Hall in late October, and in September the beaches have room while the water is still warm. Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, and Thanksgiving weekend brings a turkey trot in Oak Bluffs, the Felix Neck Fall Festival and the Vineyard Artisans’ biggest holiday show at the Ag Hall. In December, Oak Bluffs lights its tree on December 5, and Christmas in Edgartown runs from December 10 to 13.
