Skiff Avenue in Vineyard Haven, Martha's Vineyard features boutique shopping, restaurants, and the everyday charm of island community life.
Walk around Skiff Avenue in Vineyard Haven, on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. Visitors to Vineyard Haven will find a diverse community, home to some of the best retail shopping, restaurants, and entertainment in New England. Once you dock in Vineyard Haven Harbor, you’ll be able to quickly explore downtown Vineyard Haven by walking down Main Street, which is sprinkled with locally-owned shops. You’ll discover unique clothing shops, vintage stores, as well as everything in between. Shopping locally is the best way you can support a community.
Skiff Avenue runs parallel to Main Street and offers a quieter alternative to the busier commercial strip. Here you'll find a mix of boutique shops selling island-made goods, locally roasted coffee, and artisan crafts. Unlike the tourist-oriented Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs, Skiff Avenue has the feel of a real neighborhood shopping street where year-round residents do their daily errands.
The restaurants along this stretch tend to be casual and locally owned — the kind of places where the waitstaff knows the regulars by name. For dining recommendations, this area is worth exploring beyond the usual tourist picks.
Skiff Avenue is a short walk from the Steamship ferry terminal in Vineyard Haven. If you arrive without a car, everything on this street is easily walkable. The VTA bus stops nearby on Main Street, connecting you to all six towns on the island.
